Is wallpaper on the comeback?

Over recent years we’ve seen wallpaper appearing more and more in home makeover shows, and its become a go-to for adding a statement piece to a space.

Offering more than paint, wallpaper has the ability to transform a room, and reflect your personal style and personality.

Much has changed in the wallpaper industry. Companies are producing wall coverings that are easier to install and/or remove when you fancy a change. Designs are brighter, bolder and offer a huge selection of wall coverings to match your unique style.

Can I wallpaper over existing paper?

It is a huge gamble to wallpaper over existing paper and I would not recommend it. To achieve a perfect installation you need a solid and reliable base. There is no guarantee that the existing wallpaper and wall beneath is sound and stable to withstand an additional layer of paper and adhesive. There is a high likelihood of the installation failing when papering over an existing wall covering.

Is papering a bathroom a good idea?

With a suitable wallpaper, yes! The right design can create a stunning and lovely space. I can help find the perfect wallpaper, that is hardwearing, scrubbable and suitable for humid areas.

When I am ready to change the aesthetic of my room, is wallpaper easy to remove?

The wallpaper industry has changed significantly over recent years. Advances in the actual wallpaper material, as well as wallpaper primers and adhesives all contribute to a much easier removal when the time comes for a change.

What are your thoughts on peel and stick?

There is much hype around peel and stick papers recently, and more and more companies are launching P&T collections. Based on my experience, and those of my fellow wallpaper installers, I highly recommend traditional wallpaper for a long lasting and successful installation.

How do I even begin to choose a wallpaper, there are so many?

That’s where I can help. There are a number of elements that narrow down the search from the outset. Where the paper will be used, your vision for the space, the atmosphere you’re wanting to create, as well as existing colors, furniture and features are all considerations we’ll work through together. My experience in hanging a multitude of wall coverings from companies from all around the world will ensure we find the paper that’s just right for you!

How do I know how much paper I need?

Calculating wallpaper quantities is not as straight forward as it appears. There are a number of factors to consider, not simply the square footage. Ceiling height, width of paper, type and size of the pattern repeat, roll length and obstacles all need to be taken into account. Working out the most efficient and pleasing to the eye layout, and ordering just the right quantity is a foundational service of Jenny Elliott Designs.
